New SAT in 2016 Reading Section Changes + Strategies

New SAT in 2016 Reading Section Changes + Strategies SAT / ACT Prep Online Guides and Tips As you may know, the College Board recently debuted itsnew version of the SAT. There are some pretty significant changes in the Critical Reading section, and you should make sure you're fully prepared for what’s ahead. In this article I’ll tell you what the major differences are and how you can make sure you’re using the right studying strategies to get ready for the redesigned SAT. Reading: The Major Changes in the 2016 New SAT All Questions Are Passage-Based You heard me - no more sentence completion questions!Because sentence completion questions relied on preexisting knowledge of obscure words, the SAT has decided to do away with them in favor of more on vocabulary in context questions. One of the goals of the new test is to focus on assessing the basic critical skills students will need in order to succeed in college and their careers.Knowing super advanced vocabulary words, while occasionally valuable, is not a skill that most people require to succeed in life.Understanding the nuances in meaning of more common words, however, is very useful, along with strong reading comprehension skills. That's why all the questions are now based on challenging passages that deal with subject matter that is relevant to soon-to-be college students. The Subject Matter of Passages Is Pre-Determined Much like the passages on the ACT, the passages on the new SAT come from specific subject areas rather than drawing from an unpredictable pool of different subjects. The new Reading section consists of: One passage dealing with US and World Literature Two passages dealing with History and Social Studies Two passages dealing with Science This is a move towards more transparency on the test in terms of making the material more predictable so students will know exactly what to expect. The passages also draw from more recent and real life examples to make them highly relevant to students. New "Find the Evidence" Questions There is a subcategory of questions on the new SAT Reading section that has never been included on the test before. You'll get a list of four quotes from the passage and have to choose the one that provides the best evidence for your answer to the previous question. These questions force you to double check your thought process and confirm that your answer had support in the text. In this way, they could actually help you to avoid careless mistakes. The goal of these questions is to reinforce higher-level reasoning skills that are critical for reading comprehension. There Is Data Interpretation The new SAT reading section also contains some questions that ask you to interpret data that’s incorporated into the passages. There are charts and graphs on the test for the first time. This means that you can expect to see SAT Critical Reading questions that are similar to Science questions on the ACT.Don’t worry though - you don’t have to study science facts in order to do well on the new reading section. You just need to be able to interpret data logically based on visual representations and information in the passages. There Will Be...Data Interpretation. Your Strategy: The Major Changes Don’t Focus on Vocabulary Studying vocabulary has never been as important as people make it out to be for the SAT, and now with these new changes it’s even more irrelevant.Knowing a lot of big words no longer gives you much of an advantage (if any) on the test.Yes, there are stillvocabulary in context questions, but passage reading and interpretation skills will help you a lot more than vocabulary knowledge on those. If vocabulary is a big weakness for you, and you think it could still affect your reading comprehension, you should take a look at this article on the best way to study SAT vocab. It includes a free download of 200 vocabulary flashcards containing the words that are most likely to appear on the SAT. Our article on how to answer sentence completion questions without knowing vocabulary might also be helpful. Even though there aren't any sentence completion questions on the new SAT, the skills outlined in the article in terms of using connotation and process of elimination will still be useful for you if your vocabulary knowledge is weaker. Hone Your Passage Reading Skills This one is pretty obvious. Since the new test is all passage-based, you need to have really strong reading comprehension skills.Make sure you prepare a good strategy for attacking passages before the test. Here are the two methods we recommend: #1: Skim the Passage, Then Read the Questions A good skimming strategy is to read the first and last paragraphs of the passage and the first and last sentences of each body paragraph. This gives you a good sense of the main ideas and arguments presented in the passage without having to read the entire thing through. When you move onto the questions, you can read more specifically for little picture questions that give line numbers. #2: Read the Questions First, Read the Passage Later if Necessary You can also take the opposite tactic and go straight for the questions. If you use this strategy, make sure you answer questions that give specific line numbers first.By the time you answer all the specific questions about the passage and have to move onto big picture questions, it’s likely you will have already read enough to understand the main ideas fairly well. You might be able to get away with reading the passage closely right off the bat, but you can save yourself a lot of time and stress by either skimming or skipping it initially. If a passage includes corresponding graphs or charts, that means you'll see some data interpretation questions. If you know these types of questions are easier for you, you should read the graph first and see if you can answer any of them without the information in the passage. If you struggle with data interpretation, however, you might want to wait until after you read the passage so you have more context for the information in the graph. As a subset of passage reading skills, you should also be extra careful on the new SAT with interpreting texts. There are more passages that are relevant to your life or to recent events, which means it will be more difficult for you to adopt an unbiased attitude. It’s absolutely crucial that you keep yourself focused on the concrete information presented in the passage and avoid interpreting it based on your personal feelings. Practice Scientific Reasoning As mentioned above, the new SAT Critical Reading section has questions that ask about interpreting data in charts and graphs. Some questions will also ask you to select the best evidence for your answer to a previous question.Overall, this means you need to have a strong grasp on logical and scientific reasoning skills. To practice for this aspect of the new SAT, use ACT Science practice tests.Answering ACT Science questionsrequies similar skills to answering the new data interpretation questions on the SAT. Additionally, on old-version Critical Reading practice questions, make sure you fully understand where you got your answer. If you practice being aware of where the evidence for your answer for each question comes from, the new evidence questions will be easy for you.Think of them as a way to verify that your answer to the previous question was correct. They force you to rethink your answer and confirm that it was based on strong evidence. This actually isn't much different from what you've always done on the SAT - remember that the fundamental rule is that you must learn to eliminate three out of the four answer choices, and there is only one absolutely correct choice based on concrete evidence in the passage. Wow, Evidence! Have you been working out? The Bottom Line The Major Changes to the Reading Section Are: No more Sentence Completion questions Predictable passage subjects Find the Evidence questions Data interpretation questions You Should Adapt Your Study Strategy By: Focusing less on vocabulary Honing your passage reading skills Strengthen your scientific reasoning skills The new version of the SAT reading section is different, but it shouldn’t be more difficult than the old one if you know what to expect! Toyota Motor Corporation - Essay Example There are huge risks, however, in establishing production bases in emerging markets particularly in China. Sino-Japanese relations are now at a low point due to the increasing assertiveness of the former in its sovereignty claim of a string of islands that the later now possesses. This string of islands, known as Diaoyu to the Chinese and Senkakku to the Japanese, has been the flashpoint of national sentiment especially when Tokyo purchased the islands from its private Japanese owners. Ever since the purchase, several Japanese establishments and even diplomats have been under threat by Chinese activists leading to shutdowns. Nationalistic sentiment has risen to the point that boycotts of Japanese products have been called upon. Warships and jet fighters have also been recently deployed underlining the turmoil between the two nations (Gao, 2013).There are also threats of regulatory requirements requiring companies to reveal industry secrets, especially technological innovations. To critique a research paper Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 3000 words

To critique a research paper - Essay Example Mostly nurses provide care to the patients under the orders or supervision of the physicians and this traditional role has given nurses an image of care providers. However, most of the jurisdictions have permitted the nurses to work independently depending on the settings of their training level. But during the postwar period, the nursing education has been diversified towards advanced and specialized credentials, and this has brought change in many traditional regulations and roles of the care providers (Cornwell and Goodrich, 2009). Being a profession, the main motive of the nursing community in all over the world is to ensure the best care for all, while maintaining their credentials, standards, code of ethics, competencies and continuity of their professional education. There are many educational paths which lead to a professional nurse. However, it is pertinent to mention here that the nursing courses are different in overall the world; it involves extensive study about the theo ry of nursing and practice as well as training in the clinics. A professional nurse cares for people of all age groups and cultural backgrounds who are healthy and ill in a specific manner based on the person’s physical, emotional, psychological, mental, social and spiritual needs. This profession combines physical science, nursing theory and requisite technology required in caring the patients. Moreover, the transition from a student to a professional nurse is exigent due to various elements include: lack of practical experience, extraordinary expectations of the hospital and insufficient staffing in a hospital. Introduction The objectives and aim of the research paper titled â€Å"Care and compassion: the experiences of newly qualified staff nurses† written by Dorothy Horsburgh and Janis Ross (2012) is to review existing procedures being utilized by the nurses in the provision of care to the patients. Moreover, the awareness of the newly appointed nurses regarding th e compassionate care and utilization of factors facilitates achieving the objective of the nurses. In order to achieve the objective of the research paper, the authors have utilized qualitative approach and in this regard, a group of forty two (42) newly recruited nurses was selected. Diverse trends, themes and codes were detected and observed, after a though analysis on the data gained from the selected nurses. It was identified by the authors that the newly recruited staff nurses have diverse and miscellaneous rather systematic views, opinions and concepts. And ultimately, the authors realized an apprehension between the individual’s (nurse) ability to act and the working environment (cultural, communal, physical, managerial, and social) at which the nurses provide care to the patients (Horsburgh, and Ross, 2013). Moreover, it was derived by the authors that the supportive working environment influences the efficiency and performance of the nurses in a positive manner for d elivering compassionate care (Lombardo and Eyre, 2011). This document provides a thorough review of the above introduced research paper and the background of the nursing profession. Moreover, a framework utilized for qualitatively critiquing the research paper is presented by the Frances Ryan, Michael Coughlan and Patricia Cronin (2007). The research paper highlights certain questions which are required to be answered have been

Critics Andrea Stuart and Mary O Connor Essay Example for Free

Critics Andrea Stuart and Mary O Connor Essay Many would argue that men hold the power in The Colour Purple. Explore the opinions of critics Andrea Stuart and Mary O Connor and explain your own view of what Alice Walker has to say about the power in The Colour Purple. In the novel The Colour Purple power is represented differently throughout. One way in which this power is shown is through men in the novel. At the beginning men dominate and are depicted as a higher authority figure to women, it seems the men rule the womens lives. However we can also argue that women are equally strong whilst others evolve into more powerful figures. Power through sisterhood is demonstrated through the fact that Shug gives Celie companionship, something Celie may not have felt since she was separated from her sister Nettie. Through Celie and Shugs relationship Celie has gained strength in herself and has been shown to stick up for herself. We see this when Shug announces she is taking Celie and Mary Agnes with her as Celie stands up to Albert. This shows us Celie is learning to become independent. This represents one aspect of female power in the novel and it also shows that by having friends to support them these women are able to leave their lowdown dogs behind and with the belief in themselves they can build their own future. Female solidarity is shown where we see Celies protection for her mother and sister Nettie. Although she has no real proof on whether Nettie is alive and well, she never stops believing she will one day be reunited with her sister. From this we can see that if men had the will power and strength the women do in the novel, they would be able to make their hard and miserable life easier and more bearable. Celie after everything she has been through and all the misery she has been put through by various characters mainly males, she still has hope and can see a brighter future for herself and to be reunited with her sister and become a family. The love shared between Shug and Celie was getting closer and more passionate. Shugs feelings for Celie to us seemed true even though she had male sexual partners Celie still seemed more important to Shug than any other of her male partners. Andrea Stuart expresses that Celie doesnt mind that her lover Shug comes home with a husband. She only cares that Shug is back with her, the existence of a husband is irrelevant to what is important, the relationship between the two women. Albert did not have a clue to what was going on between the two of them. He could understand they had become good friends in the time they had spent together and therefore wanted to sleep in the same bed but not once did he suspect them to have a sexual relationship. He put too much trust into Celie and Shug letting them be together alone for such a long time that Shug turned Celie into a more confident character, someone that has her own voice and can speak up for herself. Celie shows her strength again in the novel when she sacrifices herself to a traumatizing experience in order to protect and prevent her sister being raped. Alphonso abused Celie and she didnt want the same to happen to Nettie, I ast him to take me instead of Nettie. Thinking Alphonso may not want her instead of Nettie she trys to seduce him, I tell him I can fix myself up for him. I duck into my room and come out wearing horsehair, feathers, and a pair of our new mammy high heel shoes. He beat me for dressing trampy but he do it to me anyway. Celie here shows her willingness to protect her little sister from the pain and suffering she had previously encountered, in order to save Nettie being sexually abused she puts herself through it again. Walker highlights the lack of power experienced by many poor black females living in the southern states through the character of Celie. She comes from a black background which therefore disadvantages her because in the time the novel was set being a black female was quite low down, they were still being treated like slaves due to her being black but also female as in those times the male role dominated. Celie was therefore used to accepting some racism from the whites. This is shown when she goes into town and bumps into her baby and her step mother in a store where the clerk was rude and showed no good manners to them. He speaks in an imperative tone, girl you want that cloth or not? We got other customers sides you. Celie also wrote about black on black racial insults. One example is when Alberts sisters came round to visit and they described Alberts first wife as too black. Lighter skin was seen as more beautiful then darker skin. Squeak after being raped by her uncle Bubber Hodges, asked Harpo do you really love me, or just my colour Squeak thought it was because of her light coloured skin due to the fact she is mixed race that Harpo was attracted to her and not because he truly loved her. Here power was shown through skin colour and Walker highlights how deeply racism is embedded for example when the critics say she is writing against black people showing their racism. Andrea Stuart and Mary OConner both think Celie is only a victim of men in the physical world. Stuart states that men are relegated to the periphery of female consciousness Celie being a black women she was not only a slave to slavery but she was also a slave to the male authority, when slavery was abolished Celie saw the opportunity to free herself from the traditions that men come first.

The Vision :: essays research papers

The Vision by Dean Koontz Most people are skeptical about psychics and psychic powers. In the book The Vision by Dean Koontz, there arises a real convincing psychic Mary, who has visions of murders that are yet to happen. But, a new twist to the story causes Mary to see a different kind of vision. Murders more gruesome than ever. More difficult to see. Harder to pursue. All these factors cause the reader , and possibly be someone she loves? Or maybe a haunting truth about the past. The story takes place in various locations of modern day California. Some of the story takes place in Los Angeles, but the most momentous part of the story takes place in a little town called King's Point. The town is on the Pacific Coast Highway, and expensive houses dot the shoreline. Pertaining to the visions, Dean Koontz vividly describes the scene of each of them, as they take place. For example, he takes the reader to one of the scenes of a murder. A small beauty shop in Santa Ana, California. He forces the reader to picture the various aspects of a normal beauty shop, such as, the exterior. The neon lights, the palm tree, the jade-plant hedges, and the money-scented air. He informs the reader of the scent of the shampoo, cream rinse cologne, and perspiration. He tells how the floor was covered in air, and the purple color of the walls, and the plush purple carpet. He describes the sound of the hair dryer and the gunshot in which the murderer shot the cashier. As one can see, the author thoroughly describes the setting. The main character is of course, Mary Bergen. She is the author of a syndicated newspaper column about psychic phenomena, and the one who pursues the visions in which the murderer creates. The true identity of the murderer is not clear until the end of the book. Max Bergen, Mary's husband, and Alan Tanner, Mary's brother, each try to help Mary pursue her visions to catch the killer, and to free Mary's life of the horrible stress that encompasses her. But Max and Alan don't get along very well. Alan feels that Mary could of picked a better man to marry, because he believes that all Max is after is Mary's money, and that Max doesn't really realize how fragile she is. Max knows how Alan feels, but obviously disagrees. Max is pretty a strong man, six inches taller, and forty pounds heavier then Alan. Although Max had promised Mary that he would never physically fight another person, he feels a strong need to fight Alan, but knows that won't stop him from being so arrogant.

USCGA Personal Statement

The service requirements after attending the academy loud enable me to support my country in a positive matter. I would wear the USC uniform with great pride. These long-term goals I have shared with you are only some of the few I have set for myself. Through my youth I have also set short-term goals such as entering the National Honor Society (NASH) in my DOODAD School. In order to achieve this goal I organized myself, and focused on all the important details such as 3. 4 GAP or higher, community service hours, and other leadership positions that were required in order to apply for a position.Once this goal was met, more effort from my part was put forth in order to obey the code of conduct and fulfill new expectations. Thirty years from now, want to be able to look back on my life and be proud of what I accomplished. All of my life have been a military child, a proud one at that. Have always looked up at those who serve with great respect and can honestly say they have taught me pl enty, not only through lectures but also through their actions. Thus from a young age I have come to see that there is no better way to pay back our country than to seer. In its military. Standing up for what we believe in assist keeps our country free. In which I have come to believe that the Coast Guard Academy can teach me lessons beyond that of any other college in the country. There, I will receive an excellent education, a solid foundation for a successful career and future, and become a far more effective leader. Throughout my youth I have had various conversations with those family members such as my father(s) who serve in the U. S. Coast Guard/Army, about the importance of leadership and their ride for their many accomplishments. Thus I cannot think of any greater goal and challenge than earning the privilege of attending the USAGE and later command position. To conclude, the united States Coast Guard Academy not only matches my college aspirations, but also my life goals. A ttending the academy would be the roots to my success. When individuals ask why I would attend any military academy, my reply in three simple words is: Pride, Honor, and Service.

Greed in Macbeth Essay

The nature of humanity always forces individuals to choose between right and wrong. Sometimes, there is conflict between personal desires and moral decisions. In the play Macbeth, William Shakespeare illustrates humankind as dark and immoral. He displays the negative side of human nature through three of the main characters. First of all, Banquo who appears to be noble but succumbs to his desires. Secondly, Lady Macbeth reveals ambition that leads her to destruction. Lastly, Macbeth becomes engulfed in greed that leads to horrible deeds. Thus, Shakespeare emphasizes that greed overrules human kindness in human nature. Banquo reveals avariciousness in pursuit of his desires. He reveals his first cupidity when he hears Macbeths prophecies by the weird sisters. Banquo states (AS BANQUO SAYS TO ..): My noble partner/You greet with present grace and great prediction/Of noble having and of royal hope,/That he seems rapt withalspeak then to me, who neither beg nor fear/Your favours nor your hate. (I,iii,55-62). Banquo, who appears to be a noble man, also displays his greed by wanting to receive a great prediction just like Macbeth. Banquo also reveals his overriding by committing the sin of omission. After the assassination of Duncan, Banquo talks to himself: As the weird women promised:If there come truth from them/As upon thee, Macbeth, their speeches shine/Why, by the verties on thee made good,/May they be my oracles as well/And set me up in hope? (III,i,2-10). Banquo does not reveal the secret of the prophecies and his suspicion about Macbeth because Banquo believes that his prophecy will not come true if he exposes this secret information. Banquo did not act upon his greed, but his greediness of keeping secrets of the prophecies leads him to his death. Moreover, a promise between Macbeth and Banquo, stops Banquo from exposing their secrets. After hearing the news about their future, Macbeth says to ( ): If you shall cleave to my consent, when tis/It shall make honour for you (II,i,30-31). Since Macbeth promises to honor him, it makes it harder for Banquo to reveal the secret. There are some good qualities but also bad qualities in human nature that leads to a downfall. In addition to Banquo, Shakespeare illustrates much stronger greed in Lady Macbeth. After hearing the news about the prophecies, Lady Macbeth reveals  her imperial ambitions. The raven himself is hoarse/That croaks the fatal entrance of Duncan/Under my battlement. Come, you sprits/That tend on mortal thoughts! Unsex me here,/And fill me from the crown to the toe top full/Of direst cruelty; make thick my blood (I,v,36-41). Through Lady Macbeth, Shakespeare shows the powerful figure of a female character normally recognized as kind and obedient during this time. However, Macbeth ( no underline) presents a dark image of a female character that becomes evil in her desires for the future. Furthermore, Lady Macbeth convinces her husband to act upon his desire and his fate. As she knows Macbeth does not have the will to actively pursue the throne, she manipulates him: Was the hope drunkFrom this time/Such I account thy love. Art thou afeard/To be the same in thine own act and valour/As thou esteemst the ornament of life,/And live a coward in thine own esteem,/Letting I dare not wait upon I would,/Like the poor cat I the adage? (I,vii,35-44). Not only does Lady Macbeth carry out her own role, she also goads Macbeth into action to accomplish her desire. Lady Macbeths natural humanity is displayed when she is not able to kill Duncan herself because he resembles her father. This illustrates that she is trying to suppress her human nature and allow her ambition to rule. However, even after reaching her achieved goal, she is discontent throughout the rest of the play. Lady Macbeth expresses her feelings, but not to Macbeth: Noughts had, alls spent./Where our desire is got without content:/Tis safter to be that which we destroy/Than by destruction, dwell in doubtful joy./[Macbeth enters]why do you keep alone,/Of sorriest fancies your companions making;whats done is done. (III,ii,6-14). Even with her dissatisfaction, she keeps her emotion herself in order to keep her throne. The greed in human nature is so strong that it can overtake morality. Finally, and for the most significantly, Lady Macbeth encourages Macbeth to act upon his greed, and abandon his morals. Shakespeare illustrates Macbeth as evil from the beginning of the play. In his first entrance, he expresses his feelings of the day by saying: So foul and fair a day I have not seen. (I,iii,39). Since Macbeth believes that good is bad and bad is good, his ambition overtakes his virtuousness. Therefore, Shakespeare illustrates that humans can exemplify both good and evil. In addition, Macbeth reveals his desire to kill King Duncan when he is left alone in his chamber. I have not  spur/To prick the sides of my intent, but only/Vaulting ambition, which oerleaps itself/And falls on the other. (I,vii,25-28). Macbeths values are shown through his speech as he expresses abhorrence for killing Duncan. Lady Macbeth convinces her husband which leads him to act upon his deed. Later, Macbeth kills Banquo because of acquisitiveness. Macbeth feels insecure because of Banquos prophecies: When first they put the name of king upon me,/And bade them speak to him; then prophet-like/They haild his father to a line of kings:/Upon my head they placed a fruitless crown,/And put a barren scepter in my gripe,/Thence to be when chd with an unlined hand,/No son of mine succeeding. (III,i,62-68). Macbeth betrays his friendship because he believes that he had committed a horrible deed not for his descendants, but for Banquos. Even though Banquo had been so kind and loyal to him, Macbeth kills him to prevent Banquos son from gaining the throne he has killed for. When once greed overrules humanity, it will continue to control and force them to make rash decisions. Throughout the play, Shakespeare presents a dark side of human nature, with greed and ambition overcoming morality. First, by exemplifying Banquos avarice in order for his heirs to inherit the throne, Shakespeare establishes immorality through omission. Secondly, Lady Macbeths ambition overtakes her, and instead of supporting her husband, she pushes him to evil. Finally, Macbeth allows his goal and desires to control his life and lead him to a betrayal of Duncan, Banquo, and his own morality. Shakespeare, William. Book by Harold Bloom. Chelsea Publishing. 2000.

Nutrition and Dietary Research Paper Get It Done Like a Pro!

Nutrition and Dietary Research Paper Get It Done Like a Pro! Nutrition and Dietetics are broad fields of study that involve principles of human nutrition, health promotion, and education, physical sciences, basic biochemistry, human anatomy, and physiology, to name a few. Writing a research paper on nutrition is challenging for students because of the broad topics that fall under the area of study. Crafting an essay takes time and requires intense research, in-depth understanding of the subject, data analysis, and proficient writing skills. This nutrition research paper writing guide will help you boost your research paper writing skills and get high grades in your nutrition research paper assignment. Each step is essential to take. How to Choose a Topic for Your Nutrition Research Paper It is harder to deal with the assigned topics than to choose one yourself because you have no idea of where to begin, how to begin, and what your instructor expects from you. However, it is likely that your tutor will provide requirements that will help you along the way. With or without a set of instructions, students select topics from their area of interest. Although this may not be the best method to choose a topic, it is pretty viable. However, the other approaches may be used as well. The following tips will help you get through the topic selection process. Brainstorm. Brainstorming will require you to identify the key events, ideas, facts or controversies that may be needed to write up a research paper in nutrition studies. Although you may come up with numerous ideas, the freedom of choice comes at a price. Thus, you need to narrow the ideas down to come up with a specific nutrition issue. Eliminate. Once you are done with brainstorming, you need to eliminate ideas and themes that do not sound like good topics to write about. You may need to conduct research to check the availability of information regarding nutrition studies and set an angle that can be explored further. Consider the audience. Your research paper is written for a specific audience. Figure out what your target audience is since it’s essential when it comes to analyzing and selecting a hot topic. You should respond to the questions like ‘Who am I writing for? Is it just my tutor, or will other people be interested in my research as well? Will I be interested in publishing my research paper if given a chance?’ Once you know the answers to the questions, you can come up with an essay topic within your area of study. At any stage of work, ensure to seek help from peers or your professor, or re-consider a research paper topic. Asking for help. At this point, you know roughly what you want to write about. Probably, you have other suggestions listed on the margins of your paper. It is important to ask other people what they think about your choice, whether it will make a good read or not. Reuse topics. When conducting research, you may come across numerous research papers within the nutrition and dietary field of study. You can easily select the topic based on the existing research papers. However, re-using such topics may require you to analyze and write a paper from a different angle. Below are some examples of nutrition and dietary research paper topics: The Interrelation Between Blood Lipids and Human Atherosclerosis; The Way Diet Can Be Used to Mitigate the Effects of Hypertension; The Benefits of Consuming Whole Foods; The Usefulness of Using Hydro-Alcoholic Extract of Lagenaria Siceraria Fruits to Reduce Blood Cholesterol; The Benefits of Whole Foods for Human Health. Pre-Writing Tips for the Research Paper Freewriting. This strategy gives you the freedom to write when drafting a paper. For ten minutes or so, you should note down anything and everything that pops up in your head regarding the topic. Don’t pay attention to grammar, spelling, or correctness of any kind. If the ideas appear one after another, just write them down and go with the flow. You may begin freewriting with or without a specific topic for your research paper. With a topic, you will have a guide. Clustering. Meet one of the ideal mapping, mind mapping, and tree mapping options. Start by writing a major idea and circling it at the center of the piece of paper. Subsequently, draw lines to other circles containing sub-ideas or issues relating to the main nutrition concept. As you work off the core, you may try to group ideas or cluster them so that a pattern begins to emerge. Organized notes. Putting notes in order is perhaps the most important first step on your way to writing the rough draft. The process ensures that the notes you took while freewriting, clustering, and researching are well-organized. For the best results, you should organize the notes as you conduct your research. However, even if you have done so, review all notes after completing the research process to organize them again. Before you work on the draft, ensure to put your notes in categories according to each supporting idea. Outline. A detailed paper outline should be constructed before you start writing. The outline should touch on: The thesis statement; Each paragraph’s main idea, and the major points that will be used to support it; The sources you will use in each paragraph; How each paragraph will transition to the next; The introduction, the body, and the conclusion for the entire paper. Coming Up with an Appropriate Title for Your Research Paper A good research paper may lack a strong readership base because of a floppy title. The title of your research paper should be appropriate for the chosen topic and should present the paper’s objective. Formulating a good title involves ensuring that it accomplishes four goals: A good title predicts the content of the research paper; An appropriate title should be interesting to the reader; The title should reflect the tone of the writing; The title should contain keywords that will make it easier to detect the article during a keyword search. Here are additional tips you can use to ensure your title adds to the effectiveness of your nutrition research paper: Ensure your research title describes the topic, the method, the sample, and the results of your study. You can use the following formula: [Result]: A [method] study of [topic] among [sample]. Example: Meditation makes nutritionists perform better: A qualitative study of mindfulness meditation among Australian nutrition and dietitian students. Avoid unnecessary words and jargon. Your title should be understandable even to people who are not experts in this field of study. Ensure your title is between 5 and 15 words in length. Verify that your title meets the standards and requirements of your academic outlet. For example, universities require students to provide titles that take a specific form. This limits your creativity. Ensure you adhere to the University requirements. How to Develop the Body Paragraphs that Look Genuinely: Expert Advice from Our Writers A paragraph is a section that consists of related sentences that support one main idea. Usually, paragraphs consist of three parts, namely the topic sentence, the body sentences, and the transition sentence to the next paragraph. Your paragraphs should indicate where the subdivisions of a research paper begin and end. Thus, this will help the reader to see the organization of the research and to grasp its main points. You need to understand that the paragraphs in the body section are the building blocks of the paper. You are unlikely to attain a good grade without well-written paragraphs that flow logically from one idea to the next. The paragraphs should inform and support the central research issue you are investigating. The beginning section of the paragraph (the topic sentence) should explain the controlling idea of the paragraph. The last part of the paragraph should tell the reader the way it relates to the broader argument and should provide a transition to the next idea. In some cases, seasoned writers may decide that the topic sentence for a particular paragraph should not go at the beginning of it. It’s OK because the topic sentence can go at the beginning, in the middle, or at the end of a paragraph. What is more important is that it is the place where you inform the readers about the main idea of the paragraph and the way it relates back to the broader thesis of the research paper. Your paragraph should not be more than a page long. The longer paragraphs are likely to contain more than one controlling idea. In this case, consider erasing sentences that relate to the second idea, as they may not inform and help to support the central research issue. Alternatively, split the paragraph into two or more paragraphs, each including only one controlling idea. Given the information above, your body paragraphs should be: Unified. All of the sentences in a single paragraph should be related to a controlling idea usually mentioned in the topic sentence of the paragraph. Clearly related to the research problem. Coherent. The sentences should be arranged logically and follow a definite plan for development. Well-developed. Each idea debated in the paragraph should be adequately explained and supported using evidence, facts, and details that work together to explain the paragraphs controlling idea. You can organize a paragraph in your research paper in the following forms: A narrative that tells a story chronologically, from start to finish; A description that provides specific details concerning the way the topic appears; A process that documents and explains step-by-step how nutrition concepts work; A classification that separates the various parts of your nutrition topic into groups; An illustration that provides examples and explains the way the examples prove your point. The General Structure of Your Research Paper Most paragraphs have the three-part structure similar to the one of an academic research paper, with the intro, the body that includes facts and analysis, and the conclusion. Your paper should have this structure whether you are narrating, describing, comparing, contrasting, or analyzing information. Each part of the paragraph plays a significant role in communicating the meaning you intend to convey to the reader. Introduction. The introduction is the first section of a paragraph that includes the topic sentence and the other sentences that give background information or provide a transition. It should provide the research problem, the background information, the research objectives, and the thesis statement. Body. The body section goes right after the introduction. Use it to discuss the core idea with the help of facts, arguments, analysis, examples, and other relevant information. If your research paper is based on scientific inquiry, your body should have subsections that review the existing literature, the methods used to gather information or conduct the study, the findings of the research, and the discussion of the research outcomes. Conclusion. It is the final section of your research paper. It summarizes the connections between the information discussed in the body of the paragraph and the paragraph’s controlling idea. For long paragraphs, you may include a bridge sentence that introduces the next paragraph or the paper segment. In some instances, the bridge sentence can be given in the form of a question. However, use this rhetorical device carefully because ending paragraphs with a question may be pretty cumbersome. Post-Writing Tips to Put the Dot Make sure to proofread your research paper to eliminate grammatical errors and sentence structure problems. Re-read the paper to ensure the content flows logically and coherently. Finally, evaluate the referencing issues. You have to make certain you’ve got appropriate in-text citations, and the works cited page.

How to Make a Pharaohs Snake Firework

How to Make a Pharaohs Snake Firework Pharaohs snakes or Pharaohs serpents are a type of small firework in which a lighted tablet exudes smoke and ash in a growing column which resembles a snake. The modern version of this firework is the non-toxic black snake. Pharaohs snakes produce a more spectacular display, but they are toxic so this firework is only produced as a chemistry demonstration. If you have the materials and a fume hood, you can make your own Pharaohs snakes. Safety First Although Pharaohs snakes are considered a type of firework, they do not explode or  emit sparks. They burn on the ground and release smoky vapors. All aspects of the reaction can be hazardous, including handling the mercury thiocyanate, breathing the smoke or touching the ash column, and contact with the remains of the reaction during clean-up. If you perform this reaction, use appropriate safety precautions for dealing with mercury. Making Pharaohs Snakes This is an extremely simple firework demonstration. All you need to do is ignite a small pile of mercury(II) thiocyanate, Hg(SCN)2. Mercury thiocyanate is an insoluble white solid which can be purchased as a reagent or can be obtained as a precipitate by reacting mercury(II) chloride or mercury(II) nitrate with potassium thiocyanate. All mercury compounds are toxic, so the demonstration should be performed in a fume hood. Typically the best effect is obtained by forming a depression in a shallow dish full of sand, filling it with mercury(II) thiocyanate, lightly covering the compound, and applying a flame to initiate the reaction. Pharaohs Snakes Chemical Reaction Igniting mercury(II) thiocyanate causes it to decompose into an insoluble brown mass that is primarily carbon nitride, C3N4. Mercury(II) sulfide and carbon disulfide are also produced. 2Hg(SCN)2 → 2HgS CS2 C3N4 Flammable carbon disulfide combusts to carbon(IV) oxide and sulfur(IV) oxide: CS2 3O2 → CO2 2SO2 The heated C3N4 partially breaks down to form nitrogen gas and dicyan: 2C3N4 → 3(CN)2 N2 Mercury(II) sulfide reacts with oxygen to form mercury vapor and sulfur dioxide. If the reaction is performed inside a container, you will be able to observe a gray mercury film coating its interior surface. Edit the google part and make the conclusion more longer Essay

Edit the google part and make the conclusion more longer - Essay Example Some may argue that they used unorthodox methods in order to get to their status. This is because by innovating new ways of management, they succeeded in doing the unthinkable. Google "asked 45 year olds for their GPAs" (Lashinsky, 2008); Apple tied its proprietary software with its proprietary hardware (Kahney, 2008), and SEMCO eliminated time clocks for employees (Semler, 1989). In this essay, we will study the different methods these companies run, and how it has made them successful. We will also suggest how these same systems can become an eventual detriment. We will give a review of each from articles and will make connections between them. In the article How Apple Got Everything Right by Doing Everything Wrong, a unique and old-fashioned strategy is utilized. This strategy is the main reason Apple is one of the most dominant and successful start-up companies in the market. Steve Jobs is the spokesperson for Apple and is featured as the â€Å"evil genius.† Furthermore, Steve Jobs is not just a public face, but instead, he is the brains behind a vast majority of Apple’s innovative ideas and operations of the company. Apple has expressed great entrepreneurial merits by envisioning the gaps in the market. These gaps represent the difference between what the market needs and Apple’s current product offerings. The company intends to do this without attempting to copy from the existing companies. This includes creating new categories that have become must-have products. Apple has been operating in a highly challenging market where it is constantly exposed to intense competition and close imitation. For this reason, Apple formulated a strict security of the development of their products. Often the team members of Apple were unaware of the outcome of the product design. The product design of Apple is rapidly changing, which creates product obsolescence and interdependence between hardware, software, and internet applications— these are some
